$1.1B of Victoria Projects Fast Tracked to Rebuild Economy

Seven Melbourne construction projects will be fast tracked including $291m twin towers in Docklands and NDIS-approved housing as the state government aims to stimulate the economy.

The seven projects valued at over $1.1b will create new jobs during the continuous effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The newly announced seven projects join 91 projects which have now been approved planning permits since March. The 91 projects are valued at $6b combined.

Developers, Digital Harbour can now go ahead with building twin towers in the Docklands valued at $291m to construct. The twin towers will take up 40,000 sqm of commercial offices.

According to the Herald Sun, the towers will provide a leasing area of 39,744 sqm, 494 sqm of retail space and contain a health and wellness centre and 302 car parking spaces.

Eleven new NDIS-approved and funded, mixed-used houses valued at $110m will be developed in Glen Iris and rise 9 storeys high. The housing will be located on Burke Rd, next to Gardiner train station.

This includes the $150m new Geelong Civic Precinct, comprising 6-storey commercial buildings, as well as a 12-storey commercial property to accommodate 900 full-time workers.

North Melbourne will gain two apartment buildings to host retail and office spaces. This project will be located at 103-109 and 115-117 Boundary Road and valued at $41.2m.

Kennedys Creek will gain a solar farm that can power more than 50,000 households. This project will be valued at $200m.

Caulfield will welcome a new build-to-rent scheme, affordable housing, a supermarket, retail, and office space valued at $250m in development.

346-350 Macaulay Road in Kensington will see 6 buildings and 426 dwellings containing retail space and valued at $70m.

Treasurer, Tim Pallas commented, “These projects help grow our building and development industry, they create jobs and they build the things Victorians need.”
