The GovHub will be home to 1000 jobs, made up of 400 jobs that are currently based in Ballarat, and an additional 600 public sector positions that are new to the city, relocating from Melbourne.
Construction is set to begin before Christmas this year, with the project expected to cost $100 million. The construction will create 500 jobs, working on a project that will only further improve the growth and employment of Ballarat. The final design of the building reflects the theme and structure of the Civic Hall and will include five storeys.
Other key features include a glass conservatory linking Civic Hall to GovHub, two levels of basement parking with 120 car parks, ground-floor space retaining the bricks and masonry theme of the existing precinct, and a reconstructed lower hall space for multipurpose use.
Along with GovHub, the Victorian Government is also investing $30 million into the Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ), an initiative to support the city’s economic growth over the next 20 years.
New tenants of the Employment Zone include Westlab, Findlay Engineering, Milestone Benchtops, and civil construction company, Pipecon. The zone will enhance business productivity and encourage and provide new jobs over the next 20 years.
