The City of Whitehorse has unanimously approved the first stage of plans by developer APH Holding to build a $320 million health hub in Box Hill.
Wellington Health will be a 20-storey twin tower precinct with 100,000 sqm of space for medical and education facilities, and part of a strategic vision by the council to position Box Hill as an education and medical hub.
The precinct will be home to a day surgery and allied health services, alongside education facilities including a medical technology facility and research labs.
A private health club and ground floor cafe will also be onsite.
Stage 1 of the project, which is expected to be complete in 2023, will include construction of 30,000 sqm of net lettable space and 50,000 sqm of gross building area.
Stages 2 and 3 are currently awaiting planning approval from Whitehorse Council, with the full scope to be completed across four stages over six years.
Healthcare construction is enjoying a welcome boom currently, in both the private and public sectors.
Kane recently commenced early works on a $180 million expansion of St Vincent’s Hospital in Fitzroy.
The Epworth Hospital’s Eastern Flats, also in Box Hill, is a 14-storey tower currently under construction by Icon, due for completion in November.
The state government’s most recent healthcare announcement included a $350 million redevelopment of Thomas Embling Hospital in Fairfield.
Wellington Health is APH Holding’s first healthcare project. The private developer has delivered one residential project, with more residential, commercial and retail projects in the pipeline for Melbourne’s east.
APH Holding’s other Box Hill developments include Irving Domain, a 113-apartment building and two luxury hotels on Whitehorse Road, all currently in the planning stages. The developer also recently announced APH City Park, a 36,000 sqm commercial office precinct in Forest Hill.
