A world-class standard of healthcare and new job opportunities have been promised to members of the Mornington Peninsula community.
In 2018, The Victorian Government committed $562 million to the redevelopment of the Frankston Hospital.
As the planning for construction is currently in effect, construction workers and project managers in the community can now look to tender for this project.
This project is estimated to provide over 1,700 jobs during its construction phase.
The project is still currently in its planning stage with the tender process aimed to begin in mid-2020, construction to begin in 2021 and the completion of construction estimated to conclude in 2025.
The redevelopment will accommodate 120 new hospital beds, two new operating theatres, 13 new emergency beds and expanded maternity, mental health, and paediatric services.
A new 11-storey, twin tower hospital will also provide many new job opportunities for local health professionals in the Mornington Peninsula and greater Victorian communities.
“This will be the biggest upgrade to an outer suburban hospital in the state’s history,” said, Premier, Daniel Andrews.
In 2015, Icon Co redeveloped the then, new emergency department and hospital ward expansion with a budget of $49 million.
This project took 19 months to complete and added three new levels to the previous hospital dwelling including a new emergency department, specialist treatment rooms, and space for over 300 new beds.
During this project, Icon Co worked closely with Project Managers, Johnstaff and Lyons Architects to complete this project which required detailed planning and unique construction.
This project was significant in the continuing development of health services on the Mornington Peninsula.
Frankston City Mayor Councillor Colin Hampton said, “This is a fantastic outcome not only for Frankston City residents but for the broader region that will now have access to even more health care services.”
Member for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke said, “This will create good, secure jobs for people in Frankston and give local families world-class healthcare, close to home.”
The long-awaited redevelopment will support Frankston Hospital to provide services to its growing local community of both young and aging populations.
