Hacer has been appointed preferred builder by Mainfreight for the logistics company’s new 120,000 square metre warehousing and freight facility in Dandenong South.
Hansen Yuncken and Becon also tendered for the project.
The facility will include over 50,000sqm of warehouse with a cool room, dangerous goods storage and over 26,000sqm of container rated hard stand.
Externally, there will be approximately 28,000sqm paving and a further 4000sqm of commercial office.
The build signals Hacer’s intent to further establish a strong industrial project pipeline in boom time for the heavy industrial sector.
As we predicted earlier this year, the pandemic has seen new trends emerge within the construction industry, with warehousing becoming a highly sought-after commodity.
The eCommerce boom is set to see industrial and logistics construction become more competitive, with ever-growing demand for new infrastructure in Australia’s capital cities, namely Melbourne and Sydney.
In the burgeoning industrial hub in Melbourne’s south-east, Mainfreight will join retail giant Amazon which opened its first Australian distribution centre in Dandenong South in 2019.
Last year, developer Salta announced it would partner with the Victorian government to jointly fund the construction of a rail line to connect to its $50 million Nexus intermodal terminal and warehouse facility in Dandenong South.
On the other side of town, Qualitas and Pelligra are set to transform the former Ford factory site in Broadmeadows into a manufacturing hub, with future-state plans for warehousing and logistics facilities.
Mainfreight has also recently begun operating out of a new depot in Traralgon, which was constructed to serve the growing Gippsland region.
Hacer is currently constructing Grocon’s Richmond Quarter mixed-use retail and build-to-rent residential complex on Bridge Road.
They’ve also recently been appointed preferred builder for Stage 2 of The Malt District mixed-use development in nearby Cremorne.
