Hickory has been announced preferred builder for the redevelopment of Walk Arcade on Bourke Street.
The project will see the arcade, which runs between Collins Street and Bourke Street Mall, given a facelift and expanded to include a hotel alongside retail spaces, culminating 9,000m2 of net lettable area.
Plans for the upgrade also include optimising a north-south pedestrian shopping link, meaning once complete, the arcade – which doubles as a high-traffic walkway – will allow shoppers to enter on Collins Street and browse through David Jones, Myer and Emporium, and exit onto LaTrobe Street through Melbourne Central.
The Arcade will also be home to two hotel chains – Hotel Indigo, with 181 rooms, and a 272-room Holiday Inn. A public rooftop bar will top out the redevelopment.
Hickory’s experience in the Melbourne CBD includes a number of high-rise apartment projects, including LaTrobe Tower, Conservatory Apartments and Opera Melbourne.
In 2019, Hickory completed neighbouring Collins House, Australia’s skinniest skyscraper atop the historic Makers Mark building at 464 Collins Street.
