Newcity Development Group have proposed a 69-storey mixed-use tower combining residential apartments, co-working spaces and a world-class, purpose-built hotel for Southbank’s growing arts and entertainment precinct.
The crown jewel of the Elenberg Fraser-designed building, located on Clarke Street in Southbank, will be the 199-room hotel, featuring a rooftop observatory and sky garden, providing uninterrupted views of the Melbourne CBD, Port Phillip Bay and beyond.

Also included in the hotel will be a ground floor restaurant and bar, two swimming pools, a gym and yoga studio, and conference and event spaces.
A Club Lounge on the building’s 66th floor with a meeting and entertainment space will be available for hotel guests, tower residents and visitors.

The building was originally to be completely residential, but Sam Failla, Director of Development for Newcity said the group “met with Elenberg Fraser to discuss revising [it] into a value-packed residential offering which combines a hotel and office component.”
“Our vision for the development was for it to be an urban oasis, fostered by healthy living and innovation and we are excited to be well on our way to delivering this project.”
Newcity is working with Cre8tive Property to vet potential hotel operators, calling on those with a lifestyle focus to express interest.
Andrew Taylor, Managing Director of Cre8tive Property, said “Newcity Development is creating a space that is going to become a mecca for locals and guests to the city.”
“The City of Melbourne has committed significant funds to transform the Southbank area to secure its reputation as a premier arts and cultural destination while the Victorian Government is funding the creation of new public spaces and investing in the expansion of Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.”
The tower’s expression of interest campaign closes on October 11, and, pending approval, the hotel is slated to open January 2024.
