Marvel Stadium is set to receive upgrades to the value of $225m as part of the AFL and the state government’s plans to bolster the Docklands precinct and ensure Marvel is one of the best sports and entertainment destinations in the world.
The tender for the Marvel Stadium upgrades is expected to go to market soon with Probuild, Lend Lease, Multiplex, Kane, John Holland and Watpac expected to tender for the project.
Marvel Stadium will be transformed into the central hub for sporting events, concerts and entertainment.
Plans for the stadium, which were recently revealed by the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Martin Pakula, have been designed by renowned architects Grimshaw and Smartform.
One year ago we reported that the AFL had appointed former CEO of Becton and Simonds Homes, Matthew Chun as Director of its Marvel Stadium Project Team.
Once completed, the upgraded stadium will include a Town Square Plaza designed to welcome pedestrians arriving on the Bourke Street footbridge from Southern Cross Station and host a combination of indoor and outdoor spaces for guests to enjoy.
Gillon McLachlan said the upgraded design will deliver the best experience for fans in the stadium and visitors to the precinct.
“The Marvel Stadium precinct will be one of the best sports and entertainment destinations in the world, with its proximity to the city and a world-class entertainment and food offering pre-and post-event.”Gillon McLachlan – AFL Chief Executive
