Foundations Underway in Cremorne for $150 Million New SEEK Headquarters

Works have begun at the site of SEEK’s new headquarters at 60-88 Cremorne Street, the latest project in a construction bubble seeing more big-name businesses move their roots out of the Melbourne CBD.

Dubbed ‘Silicon Yarra,’ the suburb of Cremorne is attracting a new wave of tech and creative businesses, lured by the area’s proximity to the city while also boasting room to grow.

The SEEK building will provide a new home for the company’s 900+ employees across the seven-storey office, designed by Hassell. SEEK Headquarters is currently based in St Kilda with the transition to Cremorne set to take place by 2021.

Transport tech giant Uber and construction company Icon already call Cremorne home, with plumbing supplier Reece set to move in to a new office development on Balmain Street. Over the Yarra, Goldfields has been given the green light to build a 24-storey office tower on Chapel Street.

MYOB is also relocating to the area, securing office space in the highly anticipated Malt District development with developer Caydon and builder Probuild set to deliver the $1 billion project. Construction began last August at the Cremorne site, home of the iconic Nylex Clock and silos.

Stage one of the project involves the construction of Coppins Corner, which will create 200 new apartments appealing to the entrepreneurs and creatives working in the area. Works on a nine-level office tower are also underway, where MYOB will move its business upon projected completion in 2020.

The finished Malt District will also boast a microbrewery, shared work spaces and a hotel. Many of the original buildings will be worked into the new offering, and the Nylex Clock is set to remain in its iconic position overlooking the development.
