Construction will commence in February on a new junior campus for Wonthaggi Secondary School in San Remo.
Minister for Education James Merlino announced last month that SJ Higgins has been appointed to construct the campus which had been allocated $25m in the 2020 budget on top of $18m in 2018.
The new campus will accompany Wonthaggi Secondary’s existing two sites, including the McBride senior campus, which was completed in 2020, also by SJ Higgins.
The junior campus will include ultra-modern classrooms, a library and administrative building, as well as a number of specialist and innovative buildings.
SJ Higgins will also deliver a multi-purpose building containing a competition-grade gymnasium and purpose-built food technology and performing arts spaces, alongside a football oval and outdoor sporting courts.
Minister Merlino said the school will provide “new and modern facilities [for] students on the Bass Coast with the learning facilities that they deserve. We made a commitment to this community to deliver this school and that is exactly what we are doing.”
SJ Higgins is experienced in the Bass Coast region, having delivered Wonthaggi’s $32.7 million McBride campus in February last year.
The builder is currently working on a $5.8 million redevelopment of the Lilydale High School Zoology Learning Centre.
The company has also delivered projects for a number of high-profile Melbourne schools, including redevelopment of the Methodist Ladies College junior school and a Middle School building for Brighton Grammar.
