St Vincent’s Health Australia is launching a $180 million expansion of its Fitzroy Private hospital campus.
Kane Constructions has commenced early works, with full completion & delivery date set for the first quarter of 2024.
The new 12-storey building has been designed with learnings from the Covid-19 pandemic response, and the build will be the first major healthcare projects built since the pandemic began.
St Vincent’s Health group CEO Toby Hall says the new building will have pandemic-proof features.
“For example, the ICU will feature air-conditioning that can be switched into ‘pandemic mode’ to provide a safer environment for both patients and staff in the event that becomes necessary,” he said.
The new facility will also feature radiology services, a maternity ward with birthing suites and special care nursery and four operating theatres designed for robotic and image-guided surgery.
Investment in healthcare construction projects is expected to take heightened focus in the coming years, with a number of new builds across Melbourne already announced, including The Alfred’s new $96 million cancer centre.
