Stonnington Council has approved six permits for Chadstone Shopping Centre to go ahead with their $685m worth of upgrades.
In late 2019, we reported that the Vicinity Centres’ redevelopment plans included expansion of the dining precinct and retail spaces, 1400 new car parking spaces and a new nine-storey commercial office building.
After ten weeks of public consultation sessions, Vicinity Centre’s proposal was approved by a unanimous council vote.
Works on Australia’s ‘Fashion Capital’ will be undertaken over six stages, the first being creating space for 853 new car parking spots on the corner of Dandenong and Chadstone roads.
Another 582 car parking spots will be made for staff and workers by Middle Road.
A 12-level multi-use tower will be built to accommodate office and wellness spaces.
Adjacent to the tower will be a 600-seat bar and revamped fresh food hall.
The shopping centre will gain an additional level reserved for luxury brands.
In 2019, we reported that Probuild was primed to continue its partnership with the centre for the proposed expansion.
The chosen contractor will build 2,400m2 of co-working space, 5,300m2 of health and wellbeing services and a 20,000m2 nine-storey office building.
We also reported that Hickory built the hotels; Chadstone MGallery by Sofitel and Chadstone Link making the group a contender for the 6-stage project.
Vicinity’s Chief Development Officer, Carolyn Viney, said: “We’re excited to be able to share with our neighbours and the broader community our vision and proposed plans for the future of Chadstone, further enhancing its status as one of the world’s leading integrated lifestyle destinations, with more than 24 million visitors a year.”
Redevelopments are planned to begin in early 2021 and aimed to be completed by 2025.
