Sunshine Hospital’s emergency department has reached another milestone as redevelopments continue in effort to increase treatment spaces from 55 to 120.

The redevelopments to the hospital will mean that there is room for an additional 59,000 patients per year and will be worth $34.9m.

The State Government has identified that more Victorians need higher quality care and has pledged to invest in more medical sites across the state.

We recently reported that Wonthaggi Hospital will see an expansion of the hospital valued at $115m. This move indicates the State Government is concentrating on improving Victoria’s quality of medical infrastructures.

Once completed, Sunshine Hospital’s upgraded emergency department will include 65 new treatment spaces, an upgraded children’s unit, low upgraded administration, mental health, drug crisis and alcohol support hub and medical imaging suite.

Sunshine Hospital is one of Victoria’s busiest medical spaces with upwards of 65,000 patients visiting the site for treatment each year.

Lendlease have been building the expansion of the Sunshine Hospital since late 2019 with works aimed for completion by late 2021.

Lendlease’s most recent projects in the healthcare sector include the $200m Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital in St Albans, and the Monash Children’s Hospital in 2017.

Their portfolio in the health space also includes completing regional hospitals; the Shepparton Hospital valued at $169.5m and the Bendigo Hospital valued at $630m.

A significant project of Lendlease’s was the Royal Children’s Public-Private Partnership redevelopment. Lendlease was responsible for the demolition of the previous site and creating space for an additional 35,000 patients per year. This project was the largest hospital redevelopment to be undertaken by the State Government and was valued at $947m in 2008.
