With the site being untouched for months, the Trennery West End development is now getting some traction.
Private investors Victor Smorgon Group and the Kanat family joined Trennery to back the project in early 2017. Hacer Group have been named as the preferred builder, with work looking to begin later this year, creating hundreds of jobs.
Four leading architecture firms have been named as building designers: Hecker Guthrie, Carr Design Group, Mim Design and Six Degrees. Principle architects are CHT Architects, with ARM Architects being named as the masterplan architects.
The $180 million West Melbourne site is 9,200 square metres, originally purchased in 2015 for a reported $45 million. Named ‘West End’, the site will be comprised of four residential buildings: the 14-storey ‘Adderley’, eight-storey ‘The Foundry’, 11-storey ‘The Spencer’ and 11-level ‘Mail House’.
The project has ambitious plans to ‘re energize’ the west and strengthen the community, according to Trennery property director Robert DiCintio. “West End brings the best in design together for the first time to create what will be an eclectic community that has a passion for great design at its core,” he said.
Some of the originally proposed features of the precinct being hailed a design haven include a hotel, 24-hour concierge service, supermarket and medical centre, dog wash and dog-walking service. Recreational features include a public park, day spa, pool, gym, 50-seat cinema, half-acre private landscaped gardens.
