The bigger, better Frankston Hospital for families in Melbourne’s south-east is a step closer – with a preferred bidder named.
The Frankston Hospital redevelopment will chiefly serve the ageing population of Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula, whilst also delivering expanded womens and childrens facilities to meet demand created by families moving into the area.
The preferred consortium, ‘Exemplar Health’ includes Capella Capital as sponsor, Lendlease as builder, Honeywell Limited and Compass Group Healthcare Hospitality Services as facilities and maintenance managers.
Exemplar Health was previously contracted by the Victorian Government and Bendigo Health to construct the Bendigo Hospital, which opened in 2017.
Frankston Hospital will remain a public hospital, with all clinical healthcare services operated by Peninsula Health.
The project promises to provide a further 120 beds to the existing hospital’s capacity, in line with recent population growth in the area.
The scope of the project also includes a multi-level clinical services tower, construction of additional operating theatres and expanded womens and childrens services.
The redevelopment will also deliver a multi-storey car park and two state-wide emergency department initiatives: a five-bed emergency department mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub, and a dedicated paediatric zone.
Construction will commence shortly, with the redevelopment creating up to 1,700 jobs at the peak of construction and in new opportunities for the healthcare sector.
The hospital is expected to be complete in 2025.
