Builder Appointed for Early Works Warrnambool Base Hospital Redevelopment

After successful practical completion of the Regional Logistics Distribution Centre (RLDC), Hansen Yuncken has been appointed to deliver early works on the $384.2 million redevelopment of Warrnambool Base Hospital.

Site preparation has begun, with early works expected to begin in February, 2024.

The redevelopment includes 22 new inpatient beds, a new emergency department and a specialised paediatric unit.

The project is being delivered over three key stages:

1. Construction of the new off-site RLDC – completed January 2024
2. Early works – February 2024
3. Main works – completion expected 2027

Scope includes:

• a new multi-storey hospital tower
• a bigger emergency department
• a new suite of operating theatres
• an additional 22 inpatient beds
• a dedicated paediatric unit
• clinical accommodation for pathology services, dialysis and central sterile services
• a 120-space basement carpark for patients and visitors
• a new, off-site Regional Logistics Distribution Centre (completed Jan 2024)

The redevelopment will create around 800 jobs during construction and provide a boost to the local economy.

Main works are expected to be completed in 2027.

Regional Logistics Distribution Centre

Completed by Hansen Yuncken in January of 2024, the RLDC features an automated storage and retrieval system, efficiently selecting and transporting items to workers stationed at ergonomically designed workstations, which are then packed for distribution.

The state of the art technology will enhance the efficiency of healthcare supply and linen distribution to over 50 health providers in the region and establish a safer and contemporary work environment for health service professionals.
