The new built-to-rent platform Local, which recently received approval for the $315 million Kensington project, will be delivered by Hacer.
The Hayball-designed mixed-use project will include 477 residential apartments and will be located at 346-350 Macaulay Road.
Six buildings were combined to form the complex, which was centred around a landscaped square. The design goal was to create a vibrant neighbourhood with generous shared amenity spaces that split into the gardens of the residents.
Once the building is finished, residents will have access to various amenities, including two private dining rooms that are completely equipped, a 250 sqm gym and wellness area, a resident co-working space, a movie theatre, an art studio, and a resident lounge that looks out onto the outdoor pool and deck.
The project, which is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2024, is specifically targeted at three groups: key workers like nurses and restaurant workers, individuals with disabilities, and women over 55 who are at risk of homelessness.
The Kensington project will aim for net zero carbon emissions from operations, in keeping with Local’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Local was founded by development executives Matt Berg and Dan McLennan, and with the help of Macquarie Asset Management and other organisations, they were able to expand beyond their first two projects both in the city and along the eastern seaboard.
For Local, reaching this milestone represents a huge vote of confidence in both the project and the company’s overall mission of offering a socially responsible and sustainable way to rent, live, and belong.
According to Hacer Director Mark Lewis, Hacer is excited to be working with Local, a fresh and cutting-edge brand in the build-to-rent industry.
Hacer is currently working on a number of residential projects, including Como Terraces: a boutique collection of 39 luxurious residences spread across eight distinct terrace forms.
Home Docklands: comprises two 30-story and 29-story residential towers with 676 apartments and extensive hotel-style resident amenities.
Assemble TSK: a Built-to-Rent development located at 15 Thompson Street in Kensington, represents an important step forwards in the future of affordable housing.
“Local’s sustainable vision, coupled with their reasonable and practical approach to working with Hacer has made for a great experience to date and we are looking forward to developing a successful long-term relationship,” Mark Lewis said following their appointment to the project.
