The Honourable Shannon Fentiman, Minister for Health, Mental Health, Ambulance Services, and Minister for Women, has announced that CPB Contractors has been selected to lead the design stage of the new Bundaberg Hospital.
This $1.2 billion project aims to enhance healthcare services in the Wide Bay region by providing 121 new beds and generating approximately 2,880 job opportunities. The hospital is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2027. As part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to healthcare development, CPB Contractors has been appointed as the managing contractor for stage one of the project.
To celebrate this significant milestone and the progression towards construction, the Premier, along with Minister Shannon Fentiman and Member for Bundaberg Tom Smith, gathered to make the announcement.
“Today is another landmark announcement in the construction of the Wide Bay’s largest ever health infrastructure project.
“Putting a name to the company tasked with building this $1.2 billion commitment, puts to bed any doubt that we would deliver on our election promise to build Bundaberg’s brand-new Hospital.
“When completed, the new hospital will not only provide the highest quality of healthcare with additional services and strengthened university partnerships, it will also be one of the largest sites for creation of jobs and employment for Bundy locals” said Member for Bundaberg, Tom Smith.
The new Bundaberg Hospital will significantly expand its services, offering over 121 additional beds across various departments, including intensive care, coronary, medical, surgical, paediatric, rehabilitation, and mental health units. Furthermore, the hospital will feature an expanded emergency department and improved clinical support services.
This project is one of three newly planned hospitals aimed at meeting the healthcare needs of Queensland’s rapidly growing communities, as outlined in the Health and Hospitals Plan.
“CPB Contractors will partner across Queensland’s health system to bring the new Bundaberg Hospital to life through innovative and modern designs based on the principles of people, place, value and technology.
“Construction of the new Bundaberg Hospital will create more than 2,880 jobs providing a massive boost to the local economy.”, said Minister for Mental Health, Health and Ambulance Services, and Minster for Women, Shannon Fentiman.
Early works, such as the establishment of access to the hospital site via an extension of Johanna Boulevard near Eggmolesse Street, were completed in March 2023. Design and preparatory activities will continue throughout this year, with major construction anticipated to begin in 2024.
The completion of the new Bundaberg Hospital is projected for the second half of 2027, subject to weather conditions and the progress of construction.
Through these hospital tenders, the Palaszczuk Government has now awarded contracts worth over $8 billion, aiming to deliver more than 1,570 additional hospital beds.
