Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT) has announced hosting the upcoming The Empowered Women in Trades Gala and Awards, a celebration of excellence, determination, and groundbreaking achievements.
Featuring categories such as ‘Tradie Lady of The Year,’ ‘Apprentice of The Year,’ and ‘Innovator of Cultural Change,’ these awards will cast a spotlight on tradeswomen, industry professionals, and organisations across various trade sectors.
In the face of a national skilled trades shortage and with women currently representing only 3% of skilled tradespeople, fostering a greater presence of female tradespeople has the potential to bolster Australia’s GDP by 11 percent, contributing to an economic growth of $25 billion over the next decade.
The event promises to unite industry leaders, trailblazing tradies, and emerging talents, anticipating an impressive turnout of 350 attendees. It offers a unique networking opportunity and the chance to draw inspiration, forge connections, and participate in a broader narrative that is shaping the future of trades in Australia.
Hacia Atherton, Founder and CEO of EWIT, enthusiastically reflects,
“The upcoming EWIT Awards and Fundraising Gala are not merely events but a manifestation of our collective commitment to uplifting and honouring the remarkable individuals in our trades industry.”
“This event is a moment to shine a light on the stories of triumph, perseverance, and innovation that weave the rich tapestry of Australia’s trade-based industries and to propel forward, fueling more dreams, aspirations, and successes in the trade sector. Let’;s celebrate, recognise, and continue to pave the way for a future where our industry thrives on inclusivity, diversity, and collective success.”
The EWIT Gala is more than a night of opulence and accolades; it is a vital fundraising occasion to advance EWIT’s mission: to empower disadvantaged women, enabling their entry into the industry and aiding them in surmounting the longstanding barriers to their progress.
The proceeds generated during the gala serve as a lifeline for these vulnerable and at-risk women. This support encompasses comprehensive training programs, mentorship initiatives, job placement assistance, and ongoing guidance, all aimed at securing their success in the skilled trades sector.
Matthew Hick, CEO of MEGT, proud sponsor of the “Apprentice of The Year” award, emphasises their commitment, stating, “MEGT has been proud to work closely with EWIT at a series of information sessions about Women in non-Traditional Trades. We’ve been thrilled to see so many female candidates engaging with employers at sessions in every capital city, along with many others in regional areas.”
The EWIT Gala and Awards will take place on Friday 23rd February at ‘The Trust’ at 204 Flinders Lane in Melbourne.
