i2C Architecture has revealed the design for The Food Innovation Precinct in Western Australia: a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as the hub for the region’s food and agriculture industry. The project was inspired by the vision of CEO Dean Unsworth and the Shire of Murray, and builds on an already distinguished reputation as a supplier of world class produce.
The facility, which will be located in the region’s agricultural district in the Peel region, will act as the industry’s tour de force, showcasing the latest innovations and leading-edge food science and technology. It will also serve as a hub for educational research and commercial innovation. The three sectors it will service being goods production, educational research, and commercial innovation.
According to Lead Architect Chris Egan, the design for the precinct pays homage to the region’s unique identity through its unique combination of agricultural and industrial elements.
“This is a destination that will develop its own social and cultural following through the facility’s ability to bolster the industry, but also due to the structure’s modern yet pragmatic design,” said Chris.
Through its master plan, the Shire of Murray collaborated with i2C Architecture to create a framework that encourages collaboration between different sectors. According to Shire President Cr David Bolt, the project is expected to bring a $1b dollars to Western Australia’s economy over the next five years. The facility will also serve as an important pillar for the region’s food and beverage industry.
“There’s nothing quite like this project in Australia – it’s a regional hub for food and agri-tech businesses, offering development and research grants which translate into between 17 and 51 new food businesses and employment creation of between 169 and 506 jobs”, said Cr Bolt.
Construction company Cooper & Oxley has been appointed to deliver the $21.7M state-of-the-art facility.
Established in 1952, Cooper & Oxley have over 65 years delivering projects throughout Western Australia, over $2b worth of projects in the last decade.
