Newmark Capital has announced that council has approved plans for a mixed-use precinct at Brandon Park Shopping Centre, which will include commercial areas and serviced apartments.
The east Melbourne shopping centre, which has seen shop closures, including the loss of Kmart earlier this year, is set to undergo a major renovation that will begin in the second half of 2023, according to Newmark Capital.
Newmark Capital, backed by former Hawthorn champion Chris Langford, has been given permission to partially demolish the development and construct a seven-story mixed-use space with serviced apartments and office space.
“The expanded offerings will bring more activity to the site including office and visitor populations, while the served apartments will serve the broader community by providing well located, high quality accommodation options” said Angus Machutchison, Newmark Capital’s Head of Property.
The local community will benefit greatly from the addition of spaces to the Brandon Park Shopping Centre. According to the plans, there will be 103 serviced apartments, two levels of office space, and retail and medical services on the ground floor.
“The new mixed-use precinct will generate employment opportunities, improve visitor experience and bring vibrancy to the surrounding community,” Mr Machutchison said.
Based on previous works, it is Conecta’s prediction that Maben Group, Hickory, ADCO and Hacer are likely to tender for the project.
Maben Group has been appointed to complete the main works of Newmark Capital’s redevelopment of the former David Jones menswear store on Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall in mid-2022.
Maben Group has commenced construction on Vicinity Centres and Hub Australia’s 4,100 sqm Hub coworking space in Box Hill Central early 2022. The $24.5 million premium office development will include four levels of coworking and commercial space above the shopping and dining precinct.
Maben Group was selected as the preferred ECI Contractor for North Blackburn Shopping Centre Stage 2 in 2021. A new supermarket, gym, child care facility, and medical centre were all part of the redevelopment plan.
Hickory was named to Time & Place’s $400 million Queensbridge Precinct earlier in 2022, which will include a health retreat with bookable outdoor cabanas, an open and private pool, a sauna and steam room, a gym, a yoga studio, a boxing ring, and private treatment rooms.
ADCO’s portfolio, made up of a range of commercial, healthcare and government projects includes the $37 million Splash Aqua Park and Leisure Centre in Craigieburn, and the $25 million Victoria Police Operational Tactics Training Facility.
Hacer’s retail construction experience includes the Burwood Brickworks project, which was completed in 2019, as well as stage 2 of the Manor Lakes Shopping Centre project.
Hacer has also been appointed for the Chadstone Entertainment and Leisure Precinct for Vicinity Centres. The most recent addition to ‘The Fashion Capital’ is set to transform the customer experience by offering world-class dining and entertainment within an alfresco and garden oasis.
