The state government has opened the tender process for 10 of 13 new schools to open by 2023, part of a $491.6 million investment in education.
The primary schools, all located in growing outer ring suburbs, have been situated in key growth areas. Construction will be split into two bundles, A and B.
- Holyoake Primary School – Manor Lakes
- Lollypop Creek Primary School – Werribee
- Riverdale East Primary School – Tarneit
- Rockbank Murray Road Primary School – Thornhill Park
- Tarneit Missen House Primary School – Tarneit
Builders to tender for Bundle A are Kane, ADCO, Hutchinsons and Watpac.
- Camms Road Primary School – Cranbourne West
- Hayes Hill Primary School – Donnybrook
- Merrifield West Secondary School – Mickleham
- Officer Rix Road Primary School – Officer
- Wollert West Primary School – Wollert
Builders to tender for Bundle B are Kane, ADCO, Hutchinsons and Hansen Yuncken.
Two schools, Camms Road Primary and Wollert West Primary, have been designed as Supported Inclusion Schools which will provide accessible and inclusive learning, and will have early learning centres onsite.
These schools will have specialist infrastructure to support children with disabilities.
Minister for Education James Merlino said “we are building modern new schools to ensure all Victorian students and their families have access to a great education close to home.”
“We look forward to securing builders for these brand new schools so we can get on with the job of opening 100 new schools by 2026 and giving our students the great education they deserve.”
Funding for the schools was allocated in the 2021/22 state budget, which included $1.6 billion for the education sector.
Watpac is nearing completion on the Fitzroy Vertical High School, a $70 million VSBA project transforming the former Fitzroy Gasworks site.
Kane was engaged by the VSBA to design and construct 10 schools for the GASP, a $207 million project completed in 2020.
Kane’s portfolio of education projects also includes a number of private schools including upgrades to Ivanhoe Grammar and Lauriston School.
Hansen Yuncken is currently constructing Greater Shepparton Secondary College for VSBA, due to be open in 2022.
ADCO also delivered eight primary schools for the GASP 2020 bundle, totalling $180 million.
Hutchinson is nearing completion of Fishermans Bend Secondary School in Port Melbourne.
