What We Stand For
We are a progressive, ambitious and principled Tier 2 construction company passionate and specialised in creating visionary buildings of impact™ which build our social infrastructure and serve our communities.

We exist to create Buildings of Impact because we believe great visions deserve to be realized. We are experts in social infrastructure construction, and we are honoured to build projects that serve communities and enhance lives.

Spaces where you are born, spaces where you learn, spaces where you care for elderly family members, spaces where you are treated when you are ill, spaces where you can excel at sport, spaces where you can enjoy your local community and more.

Our mission has always been to be the most trusted builder in our market, by delivering high-level customer service and excellence in construction projects and by always being willing to go the extra mile. Success for us stands wholly with success for the clients at the end of the project.

We build from the inside out - with transparency and integrity to produce projects of the highest calibre and quality.

Our central value of inclusivity filters throughout the business, and our experience of every facet of the construction industry spans decades. We are a high energy company and anyone joining us does so at a very exciting and empowering time.

Jamie Nicolson MD: "To be exceptional in our project delivery, to exceed our clients expectations and to always approach our projects with a positive and passionate attitude."

"Culture is everything to our business. We strive to create an environment where nobody wakes up and dreads going to work. We believe high performance happens in an environment where you feel valued, appreciated, where the structure helps support you and fosters confidence. We strive to create an inclusive and equal work environment where every staff member is part of our Alchemy family.”

We specialise in spaces that service and inspire communities. From schools, hospitals and galleries to aged care and early learning centres – at Alchemy, a job well done is one that helps forge connection, learning and growth.

After we’ve completed each job, we then have the privilege of handing over new public spaces to the locals who need them. Then, we get to stand back and witness the facilities flourish. We know that before the first soil is broken, the strongest foundations have to be built from trust, respect and mutual understanding. So our processes are always collaborative, open and rigorously executed.

By building a team and culture that puts our people, our relationships, the quality of the process and build before anything else, we create a reputation that attracts the most visionary clients, architects and projects. We collaborate with our clients and project partners as equal peers, working harmoniously with them to achieve their vision and delivering an exceptional build process and outcome. We employ the latest technologies to improve our operations and lead a global conversation that champions visionary people and projects from around the world to inspire our team and our industry peers. We have brought together experts from every section of the construction industry to provide an exemplary service to clients and an incredible environment to excel in.

We focus on building very positive relationships on our projects with our clients and the rest of the project team – on building project teams that work well and cohesively together – at the end of the day the construction industry is relationship based. We strive to ensure that everyone on the project delivery team feels pride at the end of a project through the transparent way we communicate and the integrity with which we build to produce quality projects and outcomes.

Recent Projects

Wellington Child & Family Hub
Architect: AOA Christopher Peck
Alchemy was engaged to deliver the new, purpose-built Wellington Child and Family Hub in Mulgrave for the City of Monash. The project is designed by the talented AOA Christopher Peck Architects to replace the existing aged kindergarten that had insufficient capacity for the increased demand in the local community. Initial works required demo of the existing Wellington Preschool and Mulgrave Maternal Healthcare buildings, and Alchemy managed works carefully from the outset, given the site is surrounded by residential properties and local shops, so all site activities and deliveries are keeping disruptions to an absolute minimum.

The new Hub offers brand new kindergarten rooms, maternal, child health and specialist consulting rooms, a community playgroup room and multi- purpose family room, all purpose built and will provide a truly state-of-the- art Childcare and Family facility. Ancillary works included a welcoming yet secure entry foyer, supporting amenities, outdoor education landscape areas and associated civil and site infrastructure services works.

This facility is the first of its kind in Monash and demonstrates a commitment to improving the accessibility and quality of early childhood services in the growing population of the Monash municipality. A particular focus is the major works around some established and wonderful trees, and the site team are doing a great job to protect these mature specimens.

Pascoe Vale Primary School
Architect: Kosloff ArchitecturePascoe Vale Primary needed a new administration building, new landscaping and complete internal modifications to accommodate modern learning. The Alchemy team comprehensively upgraded and future-proofed the school while carefully preserving the historic character and functionality of existing heritage spaces.

Early works involved installing a temporary fire exit from Level 1 and extending Building A to the west. We revised ramps and built a new lift to increase the accessibility to Building T in accordance with DDA standards. Now, there’s a more accessible entry to the school and easier connection between admin and Level 1, an internal fire staircase and new staff facilities that meet current BCA coverage. The refurbishment of Building A linked to the new lift, improved amenities and modernised learning spaces to accommodate more flexible pedagogies. Meanwhile, we worked on the in-ground stormwater and sewer services to ensure the school’s ageing infrastructure stays working at its best for decades to come.

Outside, we re-landscaped the surrounding gardens to create a new memorial and commemorative space featuring the relocated cenotaph and memorial plaques.

Buildings get built, but integrity gets earned. Alchemy wouldn’t have the reputation it has if it weren’t for the strength of character that our team brings to every project, every day. Each member has been chosen, not just for their globally diverse and extensive skill set, but their positivity, passion and loyalty. They bring that integrity to every job. And it shows. Our culture sets us aside. Alchemy was founded to do two things. To deliver excellence in construction projects and always go the extra mile for clients, and to create a company where no-one would dread work on a Monday. To create a culture where everyone would flourish. To create a flat structure which empowers every single person on the office and site floor. Our culture is filled with passion and good energy. We believe strongly that the undefinable energy in a business is the most important thing it needs to flourish and we know that the momentum Alchemy has built has come from the energy and the dynamism and healthy culture that has existed to help everyone within the business. We work for a large chunk of our lives and those work experiences should be fun, be supportive, and be filled with compassion and care for one another.
We are a very culturally diverse business, our team come from all over the world and have construction experiences in many different countries. Not only does this provide huge benefits on projects, but within our company culture. What makes Alchemy truly special is the cultural mix and the inclusivity which is fundamental and central to our business. We are proud of the female representation at Alchemy which is well above the industry average and we continue to strive to improve this further. We are also proud that we are one of the few construction companies in Australia with a female co-director. Our team span all age groups, from the most experienced industry professionals with 40+ years experience, to cadets and budding young entrants entering the industry. We are strong supporters of the LGBTQ Community and we strive to create a workforce that bucks normal trends and shows real cross representation across society.
Our buildings exist to harmonise with the surrounding landscape. As such, we’ve implemented an ISO 14001:2015 -accredited Environment Management System to ensure sustainability stays a top priority during every stage of construction. That means we keep up with the latest innovations in the sustainability sector. We set and track environmental deliverables for each job. And we recycle at least 90% of our building waste from every site. We are proud members of the GBC – Green Building Council of Australia. Alchemy’s commitment to environmental contracting is at the forefront of everything we do. We make every effort to maintain the delicate balance between responsible development and building works while preserving the environment. We are proud to play our part in achieving strict Environmental Management systems on our sites.
We are using the most modern technologies to help us build in the most sophisticated way we can. We strive to be at the forefront of all the changing technological innovations within our sector and implement those that we know will help deliver projects in a successful, innovative way. We always encourage our staff to think outside the box and come up with solutions for constructing buildings cleverly. We were recently nominated for a Property Council Innovation Award for moving from a traditional build method to exploring modern technologies and alternative products to ensure programme and budgets were achieved on a recent school job.
